Replacing propeller adapters for 3DR X8

Hi everyone,

We broke (or stripped) a few of the propeller adapters on our 3DR X8. We're trying to replace them, and I ordered adapters from 3DR but apparently the ones they list online aren't the ones for the X8. I didn't realize that.

We have two copters so we could take adapters from one and put them on the other, except 3DR ships them with the adapters screwed in and glued with threadlocker. Solvents can undo this, but it seems like a solvent might mess with the wiring inside the motor just below the adapter.

I'm looking for a third party vendor who can ship to us ASAP but so far just finding stuff overseas that will take weeks. We're supposed to go to Puerto Rico to fly over our forest at the end of this week.

Anyone ever run into any of these issues or have any suggestions?

Cheers,

Jesse

Hi Jesse, I would say you definitely want to be careful about applying solvent anywhere.   I definitely have to harvest parts from one drone to get another flying all the time.  Does 3DR sell just the adapters?  Is it this thing? https://store.3drobotics.com/products/propeller-fastener-kit  3DR can usually ship stuff out pretty fast, so if you find what they have today, you might be able to get it pretty soon...

Unfortunately 3DR doesn't have the adapter listed on their site. That one you linked to is not for the X8. I made the mistake of assuming the adapter they sold was for the X8 and ordered the one you linked to. I'm trying to get them to make an exception and sell me some adapters for the X8 - the only other sources I've found are all in China and shipping is slow.

Thanks!

What does the adapter look like?

It's the metal piece with a bolt, 3 holes to screw it to the motor, and the propeller goes on the bolt.

I ended up having to order motors from 3DR that come with the adapters - they have no adapters by themselves.

Anyone reading this: be careful tightening nuts for propellers. We broke several of the bolts on propeller adapters on the X8 by tightening too much (clearly they're not particularly strong).
