The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering at Colorado State University seeks to fill a position created as part of an internal award from the Office of the Vice President for Research to initiate a new CSU Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Center. This position is half-time (50% FTE) for 2 years, and succeeding years and subsequent levels of appointment are contingent upon funding availability. The individual in this position will join the Steering Committee for the UAS Center and he/she will report to the Director of the UAS Center. The individual in this position will work on outreach to the CSU community to communicate availability of UAS Center services; assist CSU researchers technically and procedurally with development of sUAS (small unmanned aircraft systems)-enabled research strategies; compliance, including insurance, pilot certification, and CSU and FAA permissions; procurement, lending, and piloting of UAS and sensors; training of UASresearchers; and assistance with data management and analysis. Required Job Qualifications

• BS in engineering or related physical science field;• ability to obtain FAA Part 107 certification by start of position;• experience piloting multi-rotor copters and/or fixed-wing UAS;• knowledge of FAA regulations governing UAS operations for research purposes;• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.


Preferred Job Qualifications

• MS in engineering or related physical science field;• knowledge of UAS communications systems ;• experience using UAS for research purposes;• experience visualizing, interpreting, and manipulating data acquired from UAS platforms;• experience leading UAS training courses;• knowledge of CSU purchasing and insurance processes;• extensive knowledge of UAS systems, that includes construction and repair of UAS components.
