Hi Ecosynthers - I was wondering if it is possible for you to give a rough idea when a binary version of your structure from motion photo processing software will be available. I'd also like to know if you think the current source code and documentation on the BitBucket site is ready for people to start testing. I am experimenting with different SFM software (VisualSFM and PhotoScan) and would like to add Ecosynther to this list.
Thanks in advance,
Ned

Hi Ned,
Excellent Question! A good time to check in on this- we will get back to you!

Hi Ned,
Thanks for the interest. Ecosynther is still a work in progress, but we are moving forward with development and hope to have a beta ready soon. What kind of test environment are you going to be working in?
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
It's good to hear things are moving along. I typically work in Ubuntu but also have access to Windows 7. I don't do much programming so I don't often use an IDE but I have some experience with Eclipse and could probably learn to use others if necessary. I'm willing to test a beta version as long as I can get it to run.

Hi Ned,
We are getting close to having this working- and are aiming to release as an Amazon EC2 instance that will enable rapid processing of 3D scans by anyone without owning a high end workstation. Code will also be released though.
We will update!

Hi Erle,
Thanks for the update. Do you think you will only release an Amazon EC2 instance or will desktop options be available later? I can certainly understand the logic for developing for a single platform but from a user perspective having a desktop version is appealing.
I have only used EC2 services using the fee-based options. Do you know if Ecosynther will work using the free version? In any case I'm looking forward to testing it.
Ned
The goal is to release uncompiled and compiled versions on our code.ecosynth.org site: but I warn that setting up the software will unlikely be very easy because of the need to install other software in support of it. So we think the EC2 release will be FAR easier for folks to use- and cheaper too. A single run with 1000 images is now <$50 (and will come down). A workstation that can process the same run in about the same time (<2 days) is still >$4000.
Hi Ned,
Hope you are still interested. An Ecosynther release is coming soon! We hope to get a public release out next week.
Jonathan
Hi Ned,
Finally! We have released the first fully useful version of Ecosynther!
You can get the basics from today's blog post: http://ecosynth.org/profiles/blogs/ecosynther-v0-7
Please do give it a try and let us know if you have any questions.
You can post queries here, or create a new thread.
Looking forward to your feedback on this!
